Patryk Gizicki

I am a Dublin-based photographer whose work ranges from fine art to fashion.

My fine art practice is based mostly around the relationship between photography and personal experience, using the camera as a means by which to process memory and existence. Analogue photography is a crucial part of this practice. Slowness, the ethics of care and colour all play a fundamental role in creating the kinds of vivid and honest projects I strive to make.

My fashion work relies heavily on collaborative partnerships. This collaborative approach allows me to create work that is in dialogue with others, and which is ever-expanding in range. My style is fluid and I love being challenged with new and interesting ideas.

Stay Forever More

Stay Forever More is a reflection on my childhood and adolescence, delving into and confronting difficult memories. This is a project about identity, which speaks to my experience of emigrating from my home in Poland to county Mayo, Ireland when I was six. It evokes and reflects upon the desire to feel connected and to be at home. While the project explores feelings of liminality and belonging, it is also a love letter to the complexities of my hometown, Castlebar, and what it means to be Irish. I left Castlebar five years ago but now returning to photograph the hometown that I felt I had to run away from, it feels completely different. The inertia of the small town that I thought would drag me down now calls, as the living costs in Dublin continue to mount, forcing many to emigrate.

Photobook

The Stay Forever More book is how the project was intended to be viewed. The book format allows the project to explore its themes in their entirety, while also letting pacing and the book's quiet qualities shine through.
